SIX Chinese nationals and a Filipino were nabbed on Friday by police operatives who also seized some P4.5 million worth of counterfeit cosmetic products after raiding a store in Quiapo and a warehouse in Malabon.
The director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Chief Supt. Roel Obusan, said the Chinese and their Filipino cohort were nabbed by operatives of the unit’s Anti-Fraud Commercial Crimes Unit (AFCCU).
Obusan said AFFCU operatives, armed with search warrants, conducted the raid after Unilever Philippines, manufacturer and distributor of Dove and Vaseline products, lodged a complaint against the group for selling counterfeits in Quiapo and Malabon.
Accompanied by representatives of O.M Manahan and Associates and Unilever NV, operatives raided on Friday afternoon a store on Carriedo Plaza in Quiapo and a warehouse on Industrial Avenue in Potrero, Malabon. During the separate raids, the CIDG men arrested the six Chinese nationals and Filipino and seized some P4.5 million worth of counterfeit Unilever products.
The arrested Chinese and Filipino suspects face charges for violation of Section 155 (trademark infringement) of Republic Act 8293 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines), Obusan said.
The CIDG director did not name the arrested Chinese and Filipinos who he said were still undergoing investigation as of Saturday morning at the CIDG-AFFCU office in Camp Crame, the PNP national headquarters.
Obusan said the seized counterfeit products were turned over by AFFCU operatives to O.M. Manahan and Associates for temporary safekeeping to prevent pilferage, damage or loss.
