P4-million reward to recapture 8 escapees

OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental: Lanao del Norte Gov. Mohammad Khalid Dimaporo has allotted a P4-million reward for the recapture of the eight inmates who bolted jail on Thursday.

Perlito Gementiza, Lanao del Norte provincial jail warden, made this announcement on Friday, citing each of the escapees has a P500,000 reward on his head.

The escapees are identified as Karis Balwa Lando, Ano Angni, Mamuran Dasimbor, Bukong Santos, Waled Mandagla, Bawi Mapapandi, Samsodin Mamao, and Musakira Tomanto.

Gementiza said they were involved in heinous crimes that included murder, rape, robbery and violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

They escaped from the provincial jail in Barangay Pigcarangan, Tubod, Lanao del Norte at about 3:15 a.m. Thursday.

Investigation showed that the inmates escaped after sawing the iron grills of their detention cell with a hacksaw when the guards fell asleep.

Gementiza said the guards found out that inmates escaped about half-an-hour after the break out. A manhunt operation to recapture the escapees continues.

Senior Supt. Madid Paitao, Lanao del Norte police director, has alerted the province’s 22 towns and ordered the arrest of the escapees once sighted in their place.

Paitao said they have coordinated with the other law enforcement agencies including the military forces to assist them in the manhunt operation.
