BAGUIO CITY: About P62 million worth of fully-grown marijuana plants were uprooted and burned by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in a four-day eradication operation at Mount Chumanchil, Tinglayan town in Kalinga.
PDEA-Cordillera director Juvenal Azurin said some 310,000 fully-grown marijuana plants in various plantation sites of four hectares went to ashes in Barangay Loccolang.
Senior Supt. Victor Wanchakan, Kalinga police director, said the raid in Mount Chumancil is the second operation in the province this month under “Oplan Double Barrel.”
Kalinga is known to have hundreds of hectares of marijuana plantations located in remote areas in the province, accessible only through choppers.
The province’s “Oplan Tokhang” yielded at least 700 drug suspects who surrendered this month.
Similarly, in Benguet, at least P200,000 worth of about 1,000 marijuana plants were also put ablaze in Sitio Sapa, Tacadang, Kibungan on Monday.
No cultivators were arrested in any of the operations.
