ILAGAN CITY, Isabela: A P7-billion worth solar energy project is set to be built to address the increase in demand for power in the region.
Mayor Josemarie Diaz said the solar energy project will soon be available for residents here after the proponents of the solar power plant have already secured its funding.
“The 100-megawatt solar power project would also help provide additional power supply to the Luzon Grid which is experiencing a shortage of supply and an increasing demand for energy,” Diaz said.
Diaz said the funding has been secured so the project’s construction will kick off next month.
He also said that the solar energy project will be built by a German-based company that will need at least 1,000 laborers in its construction.
The clearing operation to prepare the project site, which is a 100-hectare land at Barangay Cabannugan, is set to start soon.
Diaz explained that the project is an excellent alternative for fossil fuels like coal and petroleum because solar energy is practically emission free while generating electricity.
“With solar energy, the danger of further damage to the environment is minimized,” Diaz said.
