CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet: Over P96-million worth of high quality marijuana has been torched in illicit mountain plantations in Tinglayan, Kalinga, now perhaps the marijuana plantation hot spot in the highland region. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Cordillera and Tingalayan policemen uprooted more than 385 fully-grown marijuana plants in a 29,750 hectare-plantation on Mount Chalanap and Barangay Loccong from September 11 to 15. The uprooted plants were valued at P96.6 million while the dried leaves were pegged to reach P3 million. PDEA-Cordillera information officer Joseph Calulut said they believe the uprooted marijuana plants are of high quality, processed into “hashies” or made into oil sold among high-end costumers outside the Cordillera region. Earlier, some P870-million worth of marijuana plants were also torched in nearby Mount Chumanchil. The PDEA said they are digging deep into identities of financiers and cultivators. No one was arrested during the operations in Mount Chumanchil and Mount Chalanap, both in Barangay Loccong.
