Pacquiao a contender as top absentee in House

THE country’s top boxing champ is also one of the top absentees in Congress.
Rep. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao of Sarangani was able to attend only 38 sessions for the past year.

Based on the records of the House of Representatives, Pacquiao, the only boxer in the world with eight titles in eight different divisions, is the fourth lawmaker with the most number of absences. He trails Gloria Arroyo of Pampanga, Abdullah Dimaporo of Lanao del Norte and Julio Ledesma 4th of Negros Occidental.

Arroyo, who is under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center for plunder, only attended 22 session days.

Dimaporo, who has also been under hospital arrest at the Cardinal Santos Hospital since August 2013 for malversation and graft, attended 27 sessions. Ledesma, a chronic absentee, was present in 32 sessions.

Pacquiao won his last two fights against Brandon Rios in November 2013 and Timothy Bradley in April.

The lawmaker was recently named the head coach of new Philippine Basketball Association team Kia Motors.
