FILIPINO ring icon Manny Pacquiao has been inspired by the Biblical story of David and Goliath with only four days left before his return bout at the Cotai Arena in Macau, China happens against Mexican-American Brandon “Bam-Bam” Rios on Saturday.
Reacting to the statement of Rios’ trainer Robert Garcia that it would be his last fight on HBO pay-per-view, Pacquiao (54-5-2 win-loss-draw slate with 38 knockouts) expressed enough confidence that his coming back stronger and faster than ever.
“Am I confident for my fight with Rios? I am more than confident. Rios is bigger than me. Remember Goliath was bigger than David and yet David needed just one stone to fell the giant,” Pacquiao announced via transcript posted by philboxing.com live from Venetian Hotel in Macau.
“I enter this fight stronger than ever. I have the strength of my country and my people coursing through my body. I fight for them, not for me. I fight for their glory, not mine.”
Despite coming from a sixth round knockout loss to archrival Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico last year, Pacquiao, 34, returned in training and conditioning last September without his former strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza who is now on the side of Rios.
Garcia said to reporters the other day that Saturday will be Pacquiao’s ‘retirement party.’
