Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum told ESPN that a backup plan if a hoped-for May 2 blockbuster against unbeaten US star Mayweather falls through is a fight four weeks later in Las Vegas, New York, London or Abu Dhabi.

“A lot of places around the world want to host a Manny Pacquiao fight,” Arum said. “He’s an international icon, and I have been approached by a number of people looking to host a Manny Pacquiao fight.”

Arum also told ESPN that Khan, a former welterweight champion, is the leading candidate, although Khan would also be a top contender to fight Mayweather if Pacquiao is not his choice.

Khan and Pacquiao have also been sparring partners before in training camps run by trainer Freddie Roach while working with both fighters.

Arum also mentioned Russian former junior welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov and Argentina’s Lucas Matthysse as possible Pacquiao foes.

But Arum says all terms outlined in talks with Mayweather’s camp have been covered and that fight would be his first choice.

  1. So if floyd doesnt sign by the end of jan & manny says no fight then its manny who has said no to the fight. Could it be floyd is still going through the details, there must be something going on surely.
But i would rather see floyd fight cotto for his 160lb title as think of it he will be only the second person ever to hold 3 world titles at different weights at the same time. He could fight manny in september, whats wrong with that. Now if he fights amir instead of floyd he will become a laughing stock with boxing fans as when floyd was talking of fighting amir all mannys fans were saying floyd is a cherry picker if he fights amir as amir is a c class fighter. So if they were riddiculing floyd for wanting to fight amir will they also ridicule manny for wanting to. The rest of the worlds boxing fans will ridicule him & i will join them as if amir is that bad an opponent for floyd & you say manny is as good if not better than floyd then he has to be an equally bad opponent for manny. Fair is fair.
