Eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao is 100 percent ready to challenge American World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Timothy Bradley on April 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Top Rank Promotion chief Bob Arum confirmed that the 37-year old Pacquiao (57-6-2 win-loss-draw record with 38 knockouts) has already got a medical clearance from Doctor Neal ElAttrache, allowing him to fight after being inactive for eight months.
“Manny is 100 percent medically cleared, it’s a complete clearance from the doctor,” Arum told The Manila Times via overseas call. “That doctor [ElAttrache] was the one who performed Manny’s shoulder operation in May last year.”
Pacquiao injured his shoulder during his super fight against unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr., who won the fight via unanimous decision held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, in May last year.
Pacquiao underwent a shoulder surgery on his right rotator cuff a week after the fight and was advised to rest for at least six months.
“Manny can tremendously move now like nothing happened,” he added. “He can start his training after this press tour. He’ll go back to the Philippines on Saturday. It is going to be an exciting fight between Pacquiao and Bradley.”
The Pacquiao-Bradley 3 coast-to-coast media tour started in Beverly Hills, California on Tuesday before going to the Theater at the Madison Square Garden in New York City on Thursday for the last part of the tour.
Pacquiao will fight Bradley (33-1-1 record with 13 knockouts) for the third time after splitting their first two encounters. Pacquiao lost to Bradley via split decision in June 2012 but came back strong in April 2014 with a unanimous decision and recaptured the WBO welterweight belt.
Arum also said that selling the third fight between Pacquiao and Bradley to the public wouldn’t be a problem. “I’m a veteran of this sport, I know what to do. This third fight will be a major boxing attraction because Bradley is now a different fighter,” he said.
Pacquiao once again reiterated his fight against Brandley would be his last so he can focus on his political career.
