The government weather agency is warning against sailing in waters off Northern Luzon, the Visayas and eastern seaboards of Central Luzon and Southern Luzon, expecting rough to very rough seas with waves 3.4 meters to 4.5 meters high due to strong to gale force winds associated with the northeast monsoon which are likely to affect these areas.
”Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 5:00 a.m. gale warning issued Friday (Jan. 10).
PAGASA expects 52 kph to 63 kph winds in Northern Luzon’s seaboards and the eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon.
Such seaboards cover Calayan and Babuyan islands, Batanes province, the northern coast of Cagayan and Ilocos Norte provinces as well as the provinces of Aurora and Catanduanes, the Camarines provinces plus the eastern coast of Albay, Sorsogon and Quezon provinces including Polillo Island.
The agency forecast in the areas partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains
PAGASA likewise forecast 52 kph to 63 kph winds in the Visayan seaboards covering Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, Antique, Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental, Samar and Leyte provinces.
Such areas will likely experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms, PAGASA added. PNA
