Rookies Maverick Ahanmisi and Don Trollano played well this time in their second game to power Rain or Shine’s 108-94 triumph over Mahindra that also led to its back-to-back win in the Philippine Basketball Association Season 41 Philippine Cup on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
This year’s third overall pick playmaker Ahanmisi posted 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the field plus four rebounds, two assists and two blocks, while the former Adamson University star Trollano scored eight points and four assists to give the Elasto Paintmasters a 2-0 win-loss record.
“Overall, I was able to give our rookies and new acquisitions some minutes and that’s good for their confidence,” said Rain or Shine mentor Yeng Guiao during the post game interview. “This is going to give them a feel of what this league is all about.”
Jay-R Quinahan also posted 14 points, while Jeff Chan and Jericho Cruz added 12 points apiece for the Elasto Paintmasters. Beau Belga had 11 points and eight rebounds, while Raymund Almazan and Chris Tiu made nine and eight points, respectively, also for Rain or Shine.
Karl Dehesa led Mahindra with 20 points.
Playing coach and professional boxer Manny Pacquiao scored his first field goal basket in the PBA with 9:59 remaining in the second quarter. He scored a baseline jumper over defender Tiu.
In the second game, Star Hotshots mauled Barangay Ginebra, 86-78, to improve to 1-1 record. Ginebra fell to 0-1 start.
Meanwhile, Talk ‘N Text forward Ranidel De Ocampo suffered a freak accident in the gym while lifting weights on Sunday. He lost mobility during the accident and was rush to the nearest hospital.
