RAIN or Shine trounced Globalport Batang Pier, 119-112, to barge into the win column in the 40th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup elimination round at the Al Shabab Al Arabi Club in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Import Wendell McKines scored 28 points and hauled down 13 rebounds to lead the Elasto Painters’ first win in three outings, while JR Quinahan finished with 24 points and 12 each from Gabe Norwood and Beau Belga to gain share of eighth to ninth spot along with Hotshots.
Both are spurting similar 1-2 win-loss slate.
The victory at least overshadowed Terrence Romeo’s career high 40 points and spoiled the debut of new import Jarrid Famous, who replaced Steve Thomas in Batang Pier’s roster.
“It’s a good win, it’s a hard game, it’s a very physical game but it gives us the momentum for our game against Ginebra.
Napakaikli ng oras for recovery, we still have to prepare our game plan, so physically and mentally it’s very difficult, said ROS head coach Yeng Guiao.
“Mahirap pero maganda rin ‘yung involved ‘yung crowd, we can get some momentum, some energy also from the crowd.
Nakakagana ba na natutuwa sila, nag-eenjoy sila,” he added.
Paul Lee settled with nine points for Rain or Shine.
Besides Romeo, Globalport had Famous debuting with 26, while Asian import Omar Krayem added 24, but the rest of the Painters including Doug Kramer, Ronjay Buenafe could only managed five points apiece.
