RAIN or Shine proved too much for Kia Carnival with a 119-99 victory on Sunday to regain the top spot in the standing of the 40th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup elimination round at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Elasto Painters actually ended their elimination round assignment in a tie with Purefoods Star Hotshots with identical 8-3 win-loss slate, but coach Yeng Guiao’s team claimed the leadership via the winner-over-the-other rule.
Rain or Shine defeated Purefoods, 78-71, in their only meeting in the conference in Dipolog City on February 14.
But a three-way tie among Rain or Shine, Purefoods and Talk ‘N Text may arise, if the Tropang Texters win over Alaska Aces in the other game.
Both the Tropang Texters and the Aces were still playing at presstime.
In case of a three-way tie the quotient system will be applied since no playoff game will be played.
Manny Pacquiao’s Kia Carnival dropped to 4-7 card, but all is not lost for them depending on the outcome of the remaining games of also in contention Alaska, Ginebra, Globalport, Barako Bull and San Miguel Beer.
Wayne Chism finished with six triples in the game, while Raymond Almazan ably supported with 16 points and nine rebounds. He was six-of-nine in the field goal. Paul Lee added 14 and 13 each from Tiu and Ryan Arana.
