• Painters, Texters collide in do-or-die Game 7

RAIN or Shine and Talk ‘N Text will dispute the crown in a winner-take-all Game 7 of the 40th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup at 7 p.m. tonight at the Araneta Coliseum.

Besides the expected the physicality of the do-or-die match, Game Seven is going to be a battle between imports Wayne Chism of Rain or Shine and Ivan Johnson of Talk ‘N Text as well as sharpshooters Paul Lee and Jayson Castro. Tonight’s game will be the 24th Game 7 in the league’s 40-year history.

The Tropang Texters are aiming for their second Commissioner’s Cup crown and their seventh overall since joining the league in 1990 while coach Jong Uichico is hoping for his ninth title. They’ve won their first Commissioner’s Cup championship in 2011 under then head coach Chot Reyes.

The Elasto Painters, on the other hand, are gunning for their second crown since joining the league in 2006. They bagged their first title during the 2012 Governor’s Cup under Yeng Guiao.

The team of Uichico won Game One (99-92), Game Four (99-92) and Game Five (103-94), while Guiao’s squad dominated Game Two (116-108), Game Three (109- 97) and Game Six (101-93).

“We should be fresher in Game Seven. I’m expecting the guys to recover because we have been using more players. We were able to extend the series into Game Seven, for all the marbles of the winner-take-all match,” said Guiao.

Uichico hopes the 6’9 Johnson would do better in the final game after a dismal performance in Game Six when he finished with only six points and six rebounds in 32 minutes of play compared to Chism’s 18 points and 24 rebounds.

“It’s just one game, a winner-take-all match. In a series, you don’t really know what will happen. We will see what will happen in Game Seven,” said Uichico.
