RAIN or Shine bounced back with a 101-93 victory over Talk ‘N Text on Sunday to force a do-or-die battle in the best-of-seven championship series of the 40th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
Import Wayne Chism, Paul Lee and Raymond Almazan worked on tight defense and steady firepower to lead the Elasto Painters’ charges, which send the long series back- to-square one, 3-3.
Both the Elasto Painters and the Tropang Texters will dispute the championship title in a winner-take-all match on Wednesday at the same venue.
The Elasto Painters started slow that allowed the Tropang Texters to take an early 8-0 upperhand, but as soon as Lee, Chism and Jeff Chan stepped on the gas, they grabbed the lead, 23-18, in the first canto.
A fiery shooting in the three-point zone by coach Yeng Guiao’s team stretched the gap to its first biggest, 54-38, still 18.8 seconds before the half. Lee had three triples while Ryan Arana, Jireh Ibanes, Chan and Jericho Cruz had one each as Rain or Shine fired seven triples compared to only four by the Tropang Texters in the first half alone.
Almazan led the Elasto Painters with a double-double performance on 18 points and 10 rebounds. He was 10-of-12 in the field goal.
