In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan in June, the Pakistan Women’s Association of the Philippines (PWAP) hosted an Iftar-dinner at Makati Shangri-La Manila with His Excellency Safdar Hayat, Ambassador of Pakistan to the Philippines as guest of honor.
The gathering was also attended by local dignitaries including former Senator Santaninah Tillah Rasul and Ambassador Mohammed Bahnarin Guinmola.
Ramadan is one of the most important months of the Islamic lunar calendar and is celebrated with great fervor and zeal to rejoice the abundance of mercy and blessings upon all mankind. During this month, Muslims around the world fast from dawn to dusk and hold special prayers. Abstinence from food and emphasis on purity of character provides for cleansing of both body and soul.
The event witnessed wide scale participation by Pakistani and Filipino families. Safdar shared his views on the lessons taught by Ramadan and the importance of increasing our knowledge about Islam.
Also, noteworthy were performances of children who recited the Holy Quran, naat (hymns for the Prophet PBUH) and presented the significance of Ramadan, which were thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated by all participants.
The renewed vision of PWAP to serve charitable causes in the country with the support of the Pakistani diaspora was also celebrated at the dinner with the unveiling of a logo for the organization. PWAP provides a forum for Pakistani women and families to collaborate through various activities including the celebration of religious and national Pakistani festivals. This helps build an inclusive community promoting solidarity and harmony.
Over the past 30 years, PWAP has contributed towards several Filipino charities and has come forward with generous support from its members in times of natural disasters and calamities.
