Malacañang on Sunday called on local government units (LGUs) to use geohazard maps in building schools and other infrastructure. Geohazard maps are critical planning tools in the government’s risk reduction plan as it contains information on the level of susceptibility of areas to flooding and landslide. In a radio interview, Palace deputy spokesman Abigail Valte issued the appeal to LGUs to observe necessary protocols in order to avert untoward incidents and fatalities during calamities. “Given the onset of climate change, these should be taken into consideration to see if the projects that we have can stand the effects or will not be affected by the impact of climate change,” she said.
