TUGUEGARAO CITY: The Palace declared August 15 as special non-working holiday here to allow residents to celebrate Pavvurulun Festival, an event honoring the city’s patron St. Hyacinth and featuring the festival of fire. Mayor Jefferson Soriano said the Palace ordered the public holiday under Presidential Proclamation 841 “to give every Tuguegaraoeño to take part in the merrymaking in the city’s festival of fire”. Pavvurulun Festival is a week long celebration that usually ends on August 16 annually. Pav-vurulun is an Ibanag word which means get-together or a sense of belonging. The festival gathers Tuguegaraoeños to a week long festivities culminating with a mass and procession of the patron saint on August 16.
