Malacañang has welcomed the resumption of negotiations between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) next month.

In a press briefing, Palace deputy spokesman Abigail Valte described the resumption of talks as a “good development.”

”Maganda po itong development. We had received word that there has been a schedule identified already for the resumption of the formal talks,” she said.

”And hopefully, maging magandang step po ito, magandang hakbang para naman po doon sa tina-target po nating lahat,” she added.

Originally set in December 2012, the signing of the comprehensive agreement was put off for March this year, and later on April.

Talks on the framework agreement’s annexes of power-sharing, wealth-sharing and normalization were postponed in late March for April. The annex on transitional arrangements and modalities was signed in February.

Valte, meanwhile, expressed optimism that both panels peace panels could soon resolve the remaining annexes in the peace talks.

”Again, we’re hoping to see a resolution to this and we’re hoping for a way forward from the three annexes that are left,” she added.
