The government has offered to help find a job for the mother of the volunteer who died in an accident during Pope Francis’ visit in Tacloban City.
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said the mother of Kristel Padasas, Judy, can also get a business loan if she decides to stay in the Philippines for good instead of returning to Hong Kong.
“Of course, we will give them grief counseling first and go with them for Kristel’s wake. Then if she decides to stay and establish a business, she will have business counseling and financial literacy training on top of being eligible of availing business loan facility from the OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration),” Valte said in a radio interview.
Kristel died when a scaffolding crashed down on her shortly after Pope Francis celebrated Mass at the Tacloban airport.
A member of OWWA or her legal dependent can apply for a loan between P300,000 and P2 million to finance a business.
