Malacañang on Tuesday said that the Aquino administration respects the temporary restraining order on the release of the lawmakers’ Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or pork barrel issued by the Supreme Court.
“We respect the action of the Supreme Court on the matter,” Palace deputy spokesman Abigail Valte said, stressing that even President Aquino has stopped the release of the lawmakers’ pork barrel funds, which has been the subject of recent investigations due to alleged misuse.
“Let me point out that the President suspended the releases also,” Valte stressed.
President Aquino earlier ordered the suspension of the release of any and all pending allocation of the PDAF until independent investigations and the courts have cleared any and all people involved in this rumored scandal.
He noted that he is saddened by the latest revelations by the Commission on Audit on the questionable use of the fund.
“We will finish the investigation first and check if there are loopholes that can still be closed,” he added. CATHERINE S. VALENTE
