Malacañang on Wednesday denied reports that Customs Commissioner John Philip Sevilla has resigned.
Palace spokesman Edwin Lacierda said that Sevilla remains the Customs commissioner.
“Wala kaming balita na si Commissioner Sunny Sevilla ay nag-submit ng resignation letter…Kami nga nabibigla sa mga ganoong tanong. But Commissioner Sunny Sevilla already made a statement that hindi siya nag-resign,” Lacierda told reporters.
“Maraming reforms na ginagawa si Commissioner Sunny Sevilla… so wala kaming nakikitang katuwiran kung bakit nagkaroon ng ganitong balitang magbibitiw (siya),” he added.
In the past weeks, rumors were rife that Sevilla has quit his post or will be resigning.
The speculation grew when he failed to show up in his office on Monday, the first working day of the year.
Sevilla took on the Customs top job in December 2013.
