Malacañang on Sunday welcomed the election of Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas as the new president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). In a statement, Palace deputy spokesman Abigail Valte said that the Aquino government looks forward to future engagements with the CBCP. “We extend our congratulations to Archbishop Villegas and wish him well as he faces new challenges as president of the CBCP,” Valte said. “We look forward to future engagements under his leadership,” the Palace official added. The 53-year old prelate was elected during the 107th Plenary Assembly of the CBCP at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center in Manila on Sunday.
