• Palaro delegates feted with song and dance performances on Governor’s Night

SANTA CRUZ, Laguna — An evening of music and dance greeted thousands of heads and officials of the athletic contingents from the country’s 17 regions on Saturday for the Palarong Pambansa 2014 opening salvo at the Laguna Sports Complex here.

Laguna Governor Jeorge ER Ejercito Estregan hosted “Governor’s Night” for the meet’s participants.

Ejercito’s wife, Pagsanjan Mayor Maita Ejercito, sang the theme song of this year’s Palaro.

Singer-composer Rico Blanco is set to render another musical theme “Ito Ang Ating Sandali” (This Is Our Moment) at the games’ opening on Monday.

The audience was also treated to a dance-musical-cultural performance by the Bayanihan, the country’s national folk dance company.

International award-winning singer Dulce Amor belted out her musical collections of Filipino and Broadway favofrites and introduced the four Filipino young tenors who sang the opening song of the Barcelona Olympics.

The delegates and guests were also treated to musical and dance performances by the Sining Katutubo Dance Assembly (Sikada), the official cultural dance troupe of Pagsanjan and Laguna.

The student performers portrayed Laguna with its colorful history, heritage, unique tradition, tourism, culture, arts and the world-renown “shooting the rapids” by the Pagsanjan “bankeros” (boatmen) livelihood.
