The preparations for the 2015 Palarong Pambansa go full swing with the Department of Education and the local government unit of Tagum City working hand in hand to ensure the successful staging of the annual multisporting event for elementary and high school students.
Almost all facilities and venues for the Palarong Pambansa scheduled on May 3 to 9 are already in place.
The organizers also assured the safety of some 10,000 athletes, officials and coaches from 17 regions who will be participating. Hundreds of policemen will be deployed in different venues and billeting. They will also provide medical booths to provide the health needs of the participants.
The theme in this year’s edition is “Breaking Borders, Building Peace” underscoring the importance of peace, love and unity.
The Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex will be the main venue of the Palarong Pambansa. It has a rubberized eight-track athletics oval, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a multipurpose gymnasium, a football field, an archery range and tennis courts.
Palarong Pambansa has produced a lot of successful athletes in the country including swimmers Eric Buhain and Akiko Thomson, tricksters Lydia De Vega-Mercado and Elma Muros-Posadas, and Youth Olympic Games gold medallist Gabby Moreno, among others.
