The 2016 Palarong Pambansa goes full swing today with four gold medals to be disputed in athletics competitions at the Albay Sports and Tourism Complex track oval in Legazpi City, Albay.
Gold medals are up for grabs in the secondary girls’ 3,000-meter run, secondary boys’ javelin throw, elementary girls’ shot put and secondary boys’ long jump in the multi-sporting event which aims to discover fresh talents from grassroots level.
There are 1,095 medals to be given away this year – 151 golds, 151 silvers and 183 bronzes in elementary and 187 golds, 187 silvers and 236 bronzes in secondary.
The swimming event will begin on Tuesday also at the Albay Sports and Tourism Complex swimming pool with 16 gold medals at stake.
Watch put for Jerard Jacinto of National Capital Region who recently broke the national junior record in the boys’ backstroke event during the Palarong Pambansa National Capital Region qualifying tournament.
He registered 1:01.44 to erase tthe 1:01.83 old mark of Michaelmars Danilla registered in the 27th Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championship held in Manila in 2003.
