Palatao shines in kayak, Monteclaro in gymnastics


REGGIE Palatao, a newcomer in the national pool, won the men’s 500-m event in touring-kayak (TK1) to secure his second gold medal on Saturday in the 2013 Philippine Olympic Committee-Philippine Sports Commission (POC-PSC) Philippine National Games at the Manila Bay.

The 23-year-old Palatao posted a time record of 2:44.71. Finishing second were Edward Galang (2:53.14) and Edgar Galang (2:54.39) third.

Over at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC) in Vito Cruz, Filipino-American gymnast Jean Nathan Monteclaro bagged three gold medals by ruling the following events: men’s seniors gymnastics ring (12.600 points), men’s parallel bar (13.500) and men’s high bar (12.625).

In baseball also at the RMSC field, Philab routed Philippine Air Force, 3-0, while the Philippine Youth team crushed Adamson University, 7-0. Marikina, on the other hand, escaped with a 6-4 win over De La Salle University in the opening match.

Meanwhile, cyclists will see action in the road race that will fire off in Tarlac on Wednesday. The individual time trial and track event will be at the Amoranto Velodrome in Quezon City.
