UNITED NATIONS, United States: The Palestinians formally joined the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila) in a move that would allow them to lodge war crimes complaints against Israel as of April.

The decision drew fresh opposition from the United States, which argued that the state of Palestine should not be allowed to join the ICC as it is not a "sovereign state."
