Defending champion Aston Palicte will defend his Northern American Boxing Federation (NABF) super flyweight belt against Mexican Jose Alfredo Rodriguez on Friday in the main event of Top RJJ’s Fight on beIN Sports at the Round Rock Sports Center in Round Rock, Texas.

Palicte, 26, won the NABF title last December 17 when he scored a split decision victory over American Oscar Cantu (14-2 win-loss record with a knockout).

Before his title defense, the Bago City Negros Occidental born boxer defeated fellow Filipino John Mark Apolinario last June 10 in General Santos City.

Rodriguez (32-6 record with 19 knockouts) is expected to do whatever it takes to stop his two-fight losing skid after losing to American Dewayne Beamon last July 29 via knockout and reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas last January 29 via technical knockout in Macau, China.

Rodriguez, 28, known for being a strong puncher, surrendered to Ancajas in the eighth round, complaining on his injured shoulder. The Mexican is 0-2 so far this year.

Palicte is also known as a slugger as he already compiled 19 knockouts in 23 wins, losing only twice in his professional boxing career that started seven years ago.

A victory by Palicte could give a shot for a world title bout next year.

Besides the Palicte-Rodriguez main event bout, unbeaten NABF junior light heavyweight and World Boxing Council (WBC) youth light heavyweight champion Ali Akhmedov of Kazakhstan (9-0 with seven knockouts) will battle American DeShon Webster (9-0 record with six knockouts).

Texas super welterweight champion Kenton Sippio Cook (10-3 record with six knockouts) will meet Mexican Rocky Montoya (32-2 with 22 knockouts) in a title bout while unbeaten American Reshard Hicks (9-0 with four knockouts) will clash with compatriot Jonathan Steele (7-1 with five knockouts) in a non-title welterweight bout.
