• Pampanga crime group leader nabbed

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and local police arrested the head of a criminal group in Pampanga after he sold nalbuphine hydrochloride, or nubain, to a poseur-buyer on Monday. The suspect, Carmelito Bartolo, alias Mel, “is engaged in the illegal drug trade and the production of counterfeit drugs in Pampanga. He is Number Four on our list of priority targeted drug personalities in Central Luzon,” the PDEA said. Confiscated from Bartolo were 190 ampoules of branded Nubain and 438 ampoules of generic Nubain, worth P44,700; voluminous expired medicines; and the P1,000 bill used as marked money. Nalbuphine hydrochloride was previously used as pain medication but because of its addictive properties and characteristics similar to morphine, it was included by the Dangerous Drugs Board as a dangerous drug in 2011.
