LINGAYEN, Pangasinan: The provincial government of Pangasinan is set to buy 52 units of multi-purpose vehicles, also known as Asian Utility Vehicle (AUV) this year. Most of the units will be assigned to the Liga ng Barangay (Barangay League) presidents in 48 towns and cities of the province.
In a resolution approved in Monday’s regular session, the Provincial Board authorized Governor Amado Espino Jr. to buy the vehicles, which can ensure a smoother delivery of basic and other important services to the Pangasinenses.
Liga ng Barangay Provincial Federation President Amaso Espino Third, who sponsored the resolution, said the vehicles can also help the league officers in ensuring that the proposed new development projects, listed in the annual investment program of the province, are implemented and monitored well.
Espino added that he will call his members to a meeting to craft a memorandum of agreement to assure the appropriate use of the vehicles.
He also said that the other four AUVs will be assigned to the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, the Provincial Employment and Services Office and the Human Resources Management and Development Office.
Provincial accountant Arturo Soriano said P40 million is allotted in the capital outlay for this.
The planned purchase is covered by the Interior and Local Government’s “Guidelines on Motor Vehicles Acquisition by Local Government Units.”
Hilaria Claveria, provincial budget officer, said the province has also appropriated Php15-million for the procurement of ambulances this year.
