Praying for blessings of Pope Francis, at least 40 persons with disability (PWD), babies and the elderly gathered at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila on Sunday morning.
Sister Usha Macwan from the Sisters of Charity of Saint Anne in Alabang, Muntinlupa City (Metro Manila) said they wanted to bring happiness to the Pope and join him in his crusade for “mercy and compassion” in the Philippines.
“We are here to make Pope Francis happy, to be one with him and to get blessings from him for all of us,” Macwan added.
Jorge Dolatre from the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Manila, who served as house parent PWD for 17 years, said he was expecting the Pope’s blessing.
The 40 PWDs are under the care of Elsie Gaches Village in Alabang.
The University of Santo Tomas is Asia’s oldest and the continent’s only Pontifical University.
On Sunday, it hosted the Pope’s encounter with the Filipino youth, as well as with religious leaders.
