“Kinikilig sila,” declared director Andoy Ranay.
This is the behind-the-scenes revelation of the box office filmmaker, who for the third time, is working with one of the day’s top young teen stars James Reid and Nadine Lustre. “JaDine” as the attractive pairing is called headlines the latest team up of Star Cinema and Viva Films, Para Sa Hopeless Romantic.
“Alam mo naman ang mga kabataan pag kinilig sila, kinikilig talaga sila,” continued the director of Diary ang Panget and Talk Back and You’re Dead, two consecutive movies that propelled James and Nadine’s career to great heights. “So minsan hindi na dapat sila ganun sa scene, ganun pa din, and I have to remind them, that’s not what the scene calls for,” Ranay continued laughing.
The hip director also observed and shared at the movie’s press launch this week that James and Nadine have got their chemistry for the screen all worked out.
“Certainly after two movies, nawala na ‘yung akward stage nila. Tapos na yung getting-to-know-stage, and I have to say that here in Hopeless, they really know each other so well that they’re comfortable on and off the camera. Malalim na ang friendship nila and the whole thing works.”
Besides James and Nadine, the movie also features Julia Barretto and Iñigo Pascual who ABS-CBN are pushing as a new love team.
Para Sa Hopeless Romantic has James and Nadine playing the roles of Nikko and Becca—ex-lovers who have different dispositions about love. Nikko is optimistic in the possibility of reuniting with Becca, while Becca is bitter because of her failed relationship with Nikko. In an alternative reality that exists only in Becca’s mind, Iñigo and Julia play the roles of Ryan and Maria who represent the state of Becca’s heart.
These intertwined love stories of Nikko and Becca and Ryan and Maria aim to teach moviegoers that when it comes to love, all of us have the power to choose our own happy endings. Para Sa Hopeless Romantic tells the story of every person who wishes to be loved, who is afraid to fall in love, who hopes to reconcile with a former lover, and who is hesitant to give love a second chance.
Speaking on behalf of “Team JaDine,” Nadine said of their latest big screen offering, “We really strive to do well because we know a lot of fans look up to us now. We owe them where we are, and we want them to enjoy what they will see in cinemas very soon.”
Para Sa Hopeless Romantic opens nationwide on May 13.
