Parañaque bans street drinking

Drinking intoxicating beverages and merrymaking in the streets of Parañaque City (Metro Manila) is strictly prohibited and imposed with hefty fine. Mayor Edwin Olivarez issued the warning as he expects the soar of alcoholic-related violence with the start of campaign period for local positions. Banned is drinking of liquor in public places, roads, alleys, sidewalks, sports complex and grounds, parks, church and school yards. Local police were also ordered to fully enforce the noise pollution ordinance and remind local candidates to keep the noise down during campaign rallies and parties. It said it is unlawful for any person and political parties to use or operate videoke machines, karaokes and sound systems with amplifiers and components which are unreasonably loud without proper permit in public areas. Olivarez said a barangay permit is needed before the use of sound systems for campaign rallies.
