What do Vandolph Quizon, Roselle Nava, John Ryan Yllana, Jason Webb, Vincent “Bingky” Favis and Viktor Eriko Sotto have in common?
They are all aspiring to be councilors of Parañaque City.
Quizon will run under the ticket of Mayor Edwin Olivarez, chairman of the local Liberal Party (LP). He was among the 181 new LP members who took their oath on Monday.
City hall officials said Quizpon’s mother, former actress Alma Moreno, lobbied for her son’s inclusion in the camp of Olivarez. Moreno is the ex-wife of former Parañaque Mayor Joey Marquez.
Nava, a singer, and Yllana, an actor, are incumbent councilors. Both will be gunning for reelection also under Olivarez’s ticket. Yllana is the younger brother of former Parañaque Vice Mayor and now Quezon City councilor, comedian-TV host Anjo Yllana.
Webb and Favis, both basketball coaches, are also incumbents and will seek reelection under LP.
Before joining politics, Webb was the head coach of Purefoods Stars Hotshots while Favis was the coach of Coca-Cola team in the PBA.
Sotto, also an incumbent city councilor, will also run under the LP banner. He is the son of Val Sotto and nephew of comedian-TV host Vic Sotto.
Olivarez, who won by a landslide against former councilor Benjo Bernabe in 2013, will be running unopposed for the mayoral race next year.
Political observers said the race for vice mayor will be between Vice Mayor Rico Golez and BF Barangay Chairman Jeremy Marquez, the eldest son of Joey Marquez.
