Justice Secretary Leila de Lima designated State Counsel Ricardo Paras 3rd as undersecretary for one year beginning in July.
Paras will temporarily head the office of Undersecretary Jose Vicente Salazar who will be on leave to pursue post-graduate studies in the United States. Salazar is the most senior undersecretary of the department and is charge of the Inter-Agency Council against Trafficking (IACAT).
Salazar was recently accepted at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Mid-Career Master in Public Administration (MC/MPA) under the Edward S. Mason Program.
The Mason Program is Harvard Kennedy School’s flagship international course, which prepares emerging global leaders to address the world’s most compelling development challenges. Among the Filipino graduates of the program are the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo and Budget Secretary Butch Abad.
De Lima said Paras will temporarily head the operations of IACAT.
“The IACAT is resolute in its mandate to weed out human trafficking and the same enthusiasm and resolve will be carried out during Chief State Counsel Paras’ watch,” de Lima said.
