Alab Pilipinas overpowered Kaohsiung Truth, 91-82, for its first win in the 2016-2017 ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) on Sunday at the Baliwag Star Arena in Bulacan.
Former two-time University Athletic Association of the Philippines Most Valuable Player Bobby Ray Parks Jr. led Alab Pilipinas with 30 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals while Filipino-American forward Lawrence Domingo backed him up with 21 markers on a 75-percent shooting performance on top of four boards and three dishes.
It was a slow start for the Filipinos, allowing the Taiwanese to take a 24-21 lead after the first quarter before posting a slim 42-41 advantage at the half.
Alab gained ground after it unleashed a series of attacks in the second half through the efforts of Domingo and Parks.
Asian imports Seung Jun Lee and Dong Jun Lee, and former PBA cager Val Acuna contributed eight points each.
Wesley Hsu finished with 23 points and three rebounds for Kaohsiung.
The Truth’s latest recruit Mikee Reyes, a former player of the University of the Philippines, notched 14 points, two rebounds and two assists in his debut game.
Alab will face the Truth anew on December 11 at the Kaohsiung Arena in Taiwan.
