AFTER holding her first ever provincial rally in San Carlos City in Pangasinan, the hometown of her father and late movie icon Fernando Poe Jr. or FPJ, Sen. Grace Poe will be taking her campaign to Iloilo province—her birthplac—and will be invading Roxas City, Capiz, the bailiwick of Liberal Party (LP) this week.
Poe and her running mate Sen. Francis Escudero, along with senatorial bets under Partido Galing at Puso, are scheduled to go to Iloilo and Roxas City, known territories of LP vice chairman Franklin Drilon and LP presidential candidate Manuel Roxas 2nd, respectively.
The Poe-Escudero tandem hopes to get voters to support their team that promises to introduce a government that will put the interests of marginalized Filipinos first. It also vowed to help farmers and fishermen, create jobs and provide free education under their platform anchored on “Kabuhayan, Karunungan at Kaligtasan [Livelihhod, Knowledge and Security].”
Poe staged her second major campaign rally in San Carlos City last week that was attended by thousands of supporters.
Poe’s father, the late movie icon FPJ, hails from San Carlos City.
FPJ also ran for President in 2004 but despite being the most popular candidate, he lost to the incumbent—Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo—who was accused of organizing massive electoral fraud.
In the 2013 elections, Grace Poe got more than 800,000 votes in Pangasinan, one of the vote-rich provinces in the country with 1.7 million registered voters.
She was found inside a Catholic Church in Jaro and was later adopted by the FPJ and his wife, actress Susan Roces.
