Several passengers hit the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 management for “forcing” them to take airport accredited taxis instead of the more affordable regular metered ones.
In a news program aired over QTV-11 Tuesday night, Nitya Saulo, an incoming passenger of Terminal 3, complained that the airport management deliberately closed all exits, save for one which leads to the terminal of yellow taxis, or the ones accredited by the Manila International Airport Authority to operate at NAIA terminals.
Saulo, however, said that passengers do have an option whether to take the regular metered taxis but they will have a hard time doing so.
She said some passengers prefer the regular metered taxis as they are more affordable.
Regular metered taxis have P40 as flagdown rates and charge P3.50 for every 300 meters, while yellow taxis have P70 as flagdown rates and charge P4 for every 300 meters.
“May option naman to get a regular metered taxi but in the most inconvenient, inefficient, and ineffective way. So, doon siya nagiging unfair,” Saulo said.
Octavio Lina, NAIA Terminal 3 manager, said passengers are given the right to choose their preferred taxis but discourage them from taking the regular ones for safety reasons.
Lina said they have been receiving several complaints on the abuses committed by regular metered taxi drivers including robbery holdup of passengers, having defective or tampered meters which overcharge passengers, and the drivers forcing passengers to alight in remote areas once they do not agree on the fare.
“So, binabalanse natin ngayon yung passenger safety and comfort based doon sa makukuha nilang safety pag kumuha sila ng accredited taxi sa airport,” Lina said.
He said trips of yellow taxis are recorded by airport authorities and dispatch slips are handed to passengers for future reference once problems arise.
“Sa accredited (taxis) ay ibibigay sa iyo yung dispatch slip. So, kapag hawak mo iyon puwede mong i-refer agad sa airport or itawag mo lang and immediately puwede nating gawan ng aksiyon,” Lina added.PNA
