It was an evening of beautiful haute couture as fashion designer Pat Santos held his first-ever fashion show titled “Romance with the Stones.”
Mounted at SM City Sucat in Paranañaque City, it was a fitting grand finale to the four-day Bliss Bridal Fair exhibit, which featured 19 fashion designers, with only Santos’ collection paraded on the runway.
“It has always been my dream to create high-end pieces that allow the everyday Filipina to experience the beauty of designer pieces that are typically worn by the alta de ciudad,” said Santos. “Through this show, I want them to realize that fashion is for everyone. I want them to see where fashion is going, where bridal wear is heading. It’s the advent of modern Filipina bridal couture.”
Directed by Cata Figueroa, tahe sartorial spectacle proudly presented the local designer’s first foray into bridal couture with his debut collection that aptly highlighted his 17 years of experience in the craft.
Gracing the well-attended event were top fashion producer and designer Audie Espino, celebrated fashion designers Christian Espiritu, Anthony Nocom and Jun-Jun Cambe, and Ferdinand Manfoste, assistant regional director of the Department of Trade and Industry-National Capital Region.
Romance with the Stones presented a whole new take on traditional bridal wear via a mélange of masterpieces—which featured the use of genuine Swarovski crystals—inspired by various influences from all over the world.
Opening the show was a beautiful bridal entourage, with models wearing Santos’ collection of short and long dresses for bridesmaids. Each masterpiece was lavishly decked in rich gold, silver, and white, with sparkling gems, stones, and elaborate detailing like ruffles, folds and draping.
This was followed by a spectacle of alluring bridal gowns highlighting Santos’ exquisite craftsmanship.
Key pieces included a white wedding dress with elaborate beadwork design; a bridal number with a luxurious chiffon trail emulating the nature of cascading water; and an elegant black gown that gave off a mysterious appeal with its body-contouring silhouette.
Santos’ well-received collection echoed his modern and fresh approach to haute couture and timeless design aesthetic, yet still effectively addressed the Filipinos’ preference for simple, easy and wearable fashion.
