• PATAFA revamps coaching staff amid issues

Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (PATAF) President Go Teng Kok has appointed Danny Agustin Jarina as interim head coach of the national athletics team.

Go asked all members of the coaching staff to file their respective courtesy resignation following the issues hounded the association for the past few weeks.

“As of today, all of my coaches are vacant. I asked them to file a courtesy resignation. But I assured them to reappoint within 72 hours. In acting capacity as national head coach is Danny Agustin Jarina,” said Go.

The athletics chief was saddened by the removal of coaches Joseph Sy and Roselyn Hamero in the payroll of the Philippine Sports Commission as well as the recent revelation of long jump champion Henry Dagmil regarding Sy’s “loaning scheme.”

“I decided a revamp after meeting and consulting with some athletes. Because of my sickness, I am out of my post for long time. There were issues that I didn’t know. And I apologized to them. They assured me they are not against me but against Joseph and Roselyn,” Go stressed.

Go will form a separate panel to investigate the issues involving the athletes and coaches. He even sought the International Athletics Association Federation and Asian Athletics Association on how to handle the matter.

“I call and asked the IAAF and AAA because of rights and welfare of coaches. Abide by their advise to create a panel but not include a government official. Just one coach, one national sports association president and one lawyer,” said Go.

“I asked Jarina to remove factions within the association, talk to all coaches, created a committee to handle the case of Joseph and Roselyn individually and ask Joseph to defend himself and justify everything of what is accused of him. I want to bring back the old happy PATAFA,” he ended.
