• Patriots lose top rusher Blount for rest of season

NEW YORK: LeGarrette Blount, the top rusher for the reigning Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, will miss the remainder of the National Football League season with a hip injury, reports said on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila). Radio station WEEI and ESPN said the injury Blount suffered in the second quarter of a 27-6 victory over the Houston Texans will sideline him for the final month of the campaign and the playoffs. Blount leads the Patriots rushers with 703 yards and four touchdowns. Brandon Bolden replaced Blount against the Texans and finished with 51 yards on 16 carries, but Blount has most of the Patriots’ carries this season and his absence could dim the support for star quarterback Tom Brady.
