Former junior standout Jeson Patrombon scored two victories to secure a spot in the main draw of the $15,000 International Tennis Federation Philippine Men’s Futures at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.
Patrombon, a quarterfinalist in the 2011 Australian Open Junior Championships, outplayed compatriot Kyle Joshua Dandan, 2-6, 7-6 (3), (6-4) then overpowered Canadian Andrew Ochotta, 6-1, 6-2, in the qualifying round.
Jerome Romualdez, Jurence Zosimo Mendoza, Leander Lazaro, Eric Olivarez Jr. and Calvin Charles Canlas are also aiming to earn their respective berths in the knockout stage.
Romualdez faces Teddy Jan Bong of Indonesia, Mendoza takes on Li Hei Yin Andrew of Hong Kong, Lazaro battles Nguyen Hoang Thien of Vietnam, and Olivarez meets Canlas in the final phase of the qualifying.
The main draw begins on Wednesday.
