The Cebuana Lhuiller Philippine team led by Jeson Patrombon will see action in the first round of the Asia-Oceania Group 2 Davis Cup at the Valle Verde Country Club in Pasig City today.
Patrombon was picked as the Philippines’ No.1 singles player followed by Ruben Gonzales. Treat Huey and Francis Casey Alcantara will be playing in the doubles event.
The 22-year old Patrombon was the first pick during the draw on Thursday in the same venue facilitated by International Tennis Federation supervisor Ali Katebi, Philippine Tennis Association (PTA) Vice President Randy Villanueva and PTA Chairman of the Board Jean Henri Lhuillier.
Patrombon will take on Abdul¬rahman Alawadhi of Kuwait at 3 p.m. while Gonzales will face Kuwait’s Mohammad Gha¬reeb in the second singles match.
Filipino-American Huey and Alcantara will test their mettle against the tandem of Mohammad Ghareeb and Abdulhamid Muba¬rak on Saturday at 6 p.m.
If necessary, Patrombon and Gonzales could trade partners in a rubber match on Sunday.
Both countries have already met in 2007, with the Philippines winning 5-0.
The Philippine team is aiming to return to the Group 1 of the Davis Cup tournament.
