ALASKA will face Blackwater while Meralco will battle Globalport today at the start of the 40th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governor’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
Fans are excited how Asian imports will fare against their local counterparts in the season-ending conference. The format allows the top eight teams to hire imports with heights of not more than 6’5. The remaining squads were not given limits on the heights of their imports regardless of nationality. All teams though are allowed to get Asian import with a height limit of 6’3.
Globalport enlisted 7’0 former NBA player Patrick O’Bryant and Palestinian Omar Krayem. The duo will be pitted against Meralco’s 6’5 Andre Emmett and Iranian Benny Koochoie.
Batang Pier’s returning coach Pido Jarencio hopes that newly enlisted import Dough Kramer and Billy Mamaril will power their team’s quest to reach the next round.
“Benny Koochoie, our Asian import is good. He was part of the Iranian national youth team and played for the Iran national team,” said Meralco team manager Paolo Trillo referring to the 6’3 guard. Koochoie played with the Iran Super League averaging 11.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists.
