RAIN or Shine face Meralco while San Mig Coffee battle Alaska in today’s double do-or-die quarterfinals of the 39th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Elasto Painters and Meralco Bolts both carrying 1-1 records collide at 2:45 pm for the right to face Talk ‘N Text in the best-of-five semifinals starting Monday. San Mig Coffee that posted a 70-65 triumph over defending champion Alaska Aces on Wednesday is all out to grab the fourth semifinals slot at 5:15 pm.
The winner between the Coffee Mixers and Aces will face the victor between San Miguel Beer and Air 21 Express in the other semifinals battle. Both the Beermen and the Express were still playing at presstime in another knockout game also at the Big Dome.
“Our victory on Wednesday, gave us some confidence. We will play a little bit more energetic. Alaska is defending the title in a championship level without doubt,” said San Mig coach Tim Cone.
Coach Yeng Guiao’s Elasto Painters survived with a 102-93 victory over Meralco on Wednesday to avenge a 91-94 setback in Game One of the best-of-three series forcing a sudden death match.
Coach Yeng Guiao will lean on import Wayne Chism, who finished with 27 points, seven rebounds and five steals to lead Rain or Shine to victory.
“It’s a very physical rugged game. There’s something that needs the attention of the league because it’s gotten out of control sometimes. We have two days rest and that’s good for us,” said Guiao.
