THE Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) on Wednesday slapped Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao with a one-game suspension and a P100,000 fine for pointing a “dirty finger” toward the commissioner’s and technical officials’ table during Game Four of the best-of-seven semifinals series on Monday.
“This office hereby metes out on Coach Guiao the penalty of one game suspension and a fine of P100,000.00 for persistent conduct unbecoming of a coach exhibited in a manner positively indicating disrespect, if not disdain or scorn, for the PBA as an institution and its fans,” said PBA Commissioner Chito Salud.
Guiao was meted two technical fouls resulting to his ejection from the court in Game 3 on Saturday.
The Elasto Painters won Game 1 (103-95) on January 27 and Game 2 (103-94) on January 29 but lost Game 3 (73-106) on February 1. They bounced back with an 88-83 win in Game 4 resulting to a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.
“I would like to state unequivocally that this disciplinary sanction can not fully convey the sense of regret of this office for insulting and unsavory antics. Coach Guiao continues to display and foist on the players, the referees, his peers and the entire viewing public of the PBA, especially the youth, despite repeated well-meaning advice and counsel from this office in the past,” stressed Salud.
Rain or Shine will play against Petron without Guiao in the bench in Game 5 on Friday at 8 p.m. at the Araneta Coliseum.
