Filipino-German Marc Sieber pocketed two titles in the 2016 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Turkey Futures held at the Iskele Mevkii Belek tennis courts in Antalya.
Sieber posted a 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 come-from-behind win over Sebastian Ofner of Austria in the final round to claim the top honors in the first leg of the ITF Turkey Futures.
He also defeated fifth seed Bar Tzuf Botzer of Israel in the first round (7-5, 6-4), Sefa Suluoglu of Turkey in the second round (6-2, 6-0), Lukas Mugevicius of Lithuania in the quarterfinals (6-4, 6-4), and fourth seed Michael Geerts of Belgium in the semifinals (6-3, 6-2).
In the second leg, the left-handed Sieber bucked another slow start before turning back third pick Cem Ilkel of Turkey via a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 decision in the championship round to pocket his second-straight title.
Sieber made it to the finals by ousting Botzer, 7-5, 7-5 (first round); Cho Hyeong Jin of South Korea, 6-1, 6-1 (second round); David Pichler of Austria, 6-4, 6-1 (quarterfinals); and Stijn Meulemans of Belgium, 6-2, 6-0 (semifinals).
“It was a great two-week tournament. They [Ofner and Ilkel] are both good players. Those two final matches were too close but I just didn’t give up and I’m happy that I’m back to my old winning form after suffering injuries a few years back,” said the 28-year-old Sieber, winner of the Philippine Columbian Association Open men’s singles in 2010.
