Fresh from winning five gold medals in the Asian Dragon Boat Championships, the Philippine Canoe Kayak Dragonboat Federation (PCKDF) team is beefing up for future competitions.
“We will continue to train rigorously. Other countries are being challenged to beat us so we will not stop training our team to be more competitive in international competitions,” said PCKDF head coach Len Escollante on Tuesday during the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum at Shakey’s Malate.
The PCKDF team bagged gold medals in men’s 500m standard boat, men’s 200m standard and small boat, women’s 200m small boat and juniors mixed 500 small boat in the tournament the country hosted in Palawan in November.
The Philippine team tested its mettle against Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, India and Iran, among others.
PCKDF President Jonne Go said the team has surpassed their medal haul projection.
“We are in awe of our paddlers. They made us proud,” said Go.
After the successful hosting of the Asian meet, Go said that Palawan would bid to host the 2019 World Club Crew Championships.
