The Philippine dragon boat team represented by athletes from the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF) left for Szeged, Germany on Monday to compete in the prestigious 11th International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) World Dragon Boat Racing Championships.
The Filipino paddlers will be participating in the open category (200m, 500m and 2,000m), mixed event (200m, 500m and 2,000m) and women’s division (200m and 500m).
Seeing action in the men’s division are Usman Patanglingjug Anterola, Norman Bacus, Isagani Bayson, Cresmark Dayumat, Roel Dela Cerna, Gerald Dela Cruz. Romy John Dionio, Romel Donesa, Isidro Guitering, Jose Ijalo, Ramie Llano, Mark Rainier Luz, Kerwin Meily, Joemar Ocquiana, Hardy Pabulayan, Jimmy Petilo, Alvin Sabijon, Salvador Sumagaysay, Ronald Tan, Rodrigo Tanuan, Alben Grande, Reyjel Deloso Paranaque and Ruperto Sabijon.
The women’s team, on the other hand, is composed of Ivory Ablig, Marilou Adalid, Emilou Babanto, Hazel Abarratigue, Thea Camua Bartolome, Riza Canonoy, Honeylyn Leonardo, May Rose Marinas, Elna Parohinog, Noemi Israel Tener, Ma Ailene Padrones and Maricris Veloso.
Joining the team are PDBF President Marcia Cristobal, PDBF Secretary General Pinky Castillo and PDBF Board Member Judith Hakim who will serve as IDBF race official.
The team is looking to surpass its five-gold, two-silver medal haul in the 2011 edition held in Tampa Bay, Florida.
